August 6, 2025 – Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) has introduced PROFINET support for the OmniSwitch 6465 in their latest software version, AOS 8.10R3. This widely used industrial protocol reduces the complexity often associated with managing Hybrid IT and Operational Technology (OT), making communication between various solutions much smoother.

What is PROFINET?

PROFINET ensures that machines, sensors, and other industrial systems can communicate with each other in real-time. The protocol is indispensable in factory automation, installations, and logistics, where reliable and efficient communication between IT and OT is common. Think of smart manufacturing, automated railways, intelligent power grids, and urban mobility systems.

5G and PROFINET

This update follows the recent announcement that Celona and ALE are partnering to enable Private 5G on ALE networks. You do not have to choose one or the other. Celona’s solution has supported PROFINET for some time. In a recent article, Celona Vice President Puneet Shetty wrote, "support for PROFINET over private wireless will help organizations effectively eliminate downtime and industrial disruptions."

These two developments quickly make ALE one of the best solutions for the industry. The French brand has already been successful for a long time in more than 50 countries across diverse markets, such as healthcare and education.
