How to maximize 5 GHz and 6 GHz band usage after RUCKUS Unleashed update 200.19

May 13, 2026 – When we are at trade shows, we often hear that RUCKUS Networks is primarily associated with massive enterprise environments, such as the AFAS Stadion. But nothing could be further from the truth! With Unleashed, RUCKUS also offers one of the best solutions for small to medium-sized locations. After update 200.19, we dare to say that in some areas, Unleashed is on par with much more complex and expensive networks.

What is RUCKUS Unleashed?

Every RUCKUS Unleashed Access Point (AP) has a built-in controller. In an Unleashed network, one AP is selected to act as the dedicated controller. Every change made to this AP is automatically adopted by all other connected APs. Because the network effectively manages itself, much less technical knowledge and manpower are required to manage it. This makes Unleashed ideal for smaller organizations.

Everything that changes with update 200.19

Update 200.19 is the next in a long line of updates. Just like 200.18, the focus is primarily on Wi-Fi 7. A new Unleashed AP, the H670, has been added, and the Unleashed Web Interface dashboard has been adjusted to make searching easier. Perhaps the most interesting feature—if you ask us—is that mesh radio configuration has been adjusted to support "independent 5 GHz and 6 GHz."

Previously, you could use 5 GHz/6 GHz combined, but now you can explicitly select the specific radio band used for mesh connectivity. This is useful because the 5 GHz band has a lot of interference compared to the new, empty 6 GHz band. The latter is, after all, only available on Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7. This way, you can decide to use your 6 GHz band for the backbone and 5 GHz for client devices. This ensures both bands are used as efficiently as possible.

In addition, RUCKUS has introduced a Guest Pass Manager role for those who need to manage guest credentials. With an eye toward upcoming NIS2 guidelines, this is a much-needed addition in 2026 to make both Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 networks compliant.
