What is Optical LAN?
Check out our previous article for a detailed explanation. In short, Optical LAN is an alternative to traditional copper CAT cables. Optical LAN is capable of covering distances of 20 kilometers without intermediate devices. For comparison, that is 200 times as far as a CAT cable. An additional advantage is that Optical LAN infrastructures are much less complex to install. For example, a single hotel room can be equipped with Optical LAN in 30 minutes.
Optical LAN goes a step further than Cat5E, 6, 6a, and 7 cabling, making it ideal for supporting new solutions such as Wi-Fi 7, IoT, and other high-bandwidth products.
